Resolution to authorize the Director of Public Works to contract with Great Lakes Salt Company for the purchase of liquid NaCl (salt) brine in an amount not to exceed $30,000

WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works uses brine, in combination with plowing and the application of salt and abrasives when certain factors such as road temperature, dew point and precipitation are favorable as part of its operations to control snow and ice; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Finance Department has reported it received a contract through Great Lakes Salt Company to supply 15,000 gallons of brine per event at $0.27 per gallon, for a total of $4,050 per event; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Common Council deems it to be in the best interests of the City of West Allis that the contract with Great Lakes Salt Company be accepted.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of West Allis that up to $15,000 available from the 2020 budget and $15,000 budgeted for 2021 with funding provided by the General Fund, Sanitation and Street Division, account number 100-4218-531-5328, Street/sidewalk Maintenance, Operational Supplies/Brine, be and is hereby accepted.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Director of Public Works be and is hereby authorized to enter into a contract with Great Lakes Salt Company and the Finance Department is authorized to issue a purchase order for the work with funding from the appropriate Sanitation and Street Division account.
