Resolution authorizing the purchase of one unmarked Ford Explorer replacement squad car in a sum not to exceed $35,000

WHEREAS, the West Allis Police Department maintains a fleet a of squad cars that are rotated out of service on a regular basis as the squads age and mileage increases in order to maintain a safe and functional fleet, and,

WHEREAS, the West Allis Police Department has a limited number of unmarked squad cars in said fleet, and,

WHEREAS, on April 27th, 2020, one of the department's unmarked squad cars was involved in a crash and as a result of the damages received in the crash, CVMIC the City's insurance carrier deemed this squad a total loss, and,

WHEREAS, the West Allis Police Department's 2020 budget contained funds to purchase two (2) marked squad cars and purchase orders for those squad cars were entered in March of 2020, and

WHEREAS, this current purchase request is replacing a squad which was a total loss and results in actual reduction to our fleet, whereas annually purchased squads remain operation in our fleet until their replacement is ready, and the police department has worked with the City's purchasing department to estimate the cost of a new Ford Explorer to be between $30,000 and $35,000, and,

WHEREAS, CVMIC issued a check for the totaled squad car in the amount of $20,347.88, which is the actual cash value of the damaged vehicle minus the deductible, the West Allis Police Department has sufficient funds in its Federal Equitable Sharing account to pay for the remaining cost of the vehicle, and,

WHEREAS, the West Allis Police and Fire Commission approved the purchase of this replacement vehicle at their meeting on May 21st, 2020.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of West Allis that the request by the West Allis Police Department, working in conjunction with the purchasing department, to purchase the aforesaid vehicle is hereby approved. Funding for this purchase is avai...
