Title

Resolution in support of the law enforcement officers of the West Allis Police Department

Body

WHEREAS, the West Allis Police Department officers are an integral part of the community, and law and order in any community must be a collaboration between the citizens and the members of the police department; and

WHEREAS, policing in American communities is a stressful, highly technical vocation in which officers’ every interaction is subject to being photographed or filmed and subject to public and media scrutiny; and

WHEREAS, police officers must have the support of their community and elected leaders to do their job effectively; and

WHEREAS, the generalization of all police officers’ behavior to justify a reduction in funding, reallocation of positions from sworn to civilian,  and/or dismantling of police operations harms all the West Allis Police Department officers who do a great job for the City; and

WHEREAS, it is important that our officers know that we support them;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of West Allis Common Council reiterates its continued support for the officers of the West Allis Police Department and recognizes the difficult but incredibly important work they perform on a daily basis to support our community; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be sent to the Chief of Police to be shared with the entire Department.
