Ordinance to Repeal Section 9.01 of the West Allis Municipal Code relating to removing the local quota on retail alcohol licenses

Whereas, the common council has broad discretion to grant or deny an application for a new retail alcohol license; and
Whereas, the local quota on Class A and Class B licenses creates an unnecessary step in the regulation of alcohol sales because the standards for granting a retail alcohol license and exceeding the local quota are identical; and
Whereas, the local quota causes confusion, delays, and multiple appearances before the common council; and
Whereas, the City desires to streamline the retail alcohol licensing process to encourage business development and save taxpayer dollars;
Now, therefore, the Common Council of the City of West Allis, Milwaukee County, do ordain as follows:
Part 1. Code Revision
Section 9.01 of the Municipal Code of the City of West Allis is hereby repealed.
Part 2. Effective Date
This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication.
