Charter Ordinance No. 24 increasing the total number of aldermanic districts and reducing the number of alderpersons per aldermanic district

 

Body

 

PART I.                     Pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 62.08(4), the West Allis Common Council hereby increases the number of aldermanic districts from five (5) to seven (7) aldermanic districts effective at the time that the council redistricts the boundaries of its aldermanic districts as required by Wis. Stat. § 62.08(1) for the 2020 Decennial Federal Census of Population. 

 

PART II.                     Pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 62.08(3), every aldermanic district officer residing within the territory of a new or altered aldermanic district shall hold the same respective office therein for the remainder of the officer's term; and all other vacancies shall be filled as provided by law for the filling of such vacancies.

 

PART III.                     Pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 62.09(1)(b), the West Allis Common Council hereby provides that there shall be one (1) alderperson from each aldermanic district effective April 16, 2024. 

 

PART IV.                     All ordinances or parts of ordinances contravening the provision of this ordinance are hereby repealed.

 

PART V.                     This charter ordinance shall take effect sixty (60) days after its passage by a two-thirds vote of the members-elect of the Common Council and publication, unless within such sixty (60) days a referendum petition shall be filed as provided by Wis. Stat. § 66.0101(5), in which event this ordinance shall not take effect until submitted to a referendum and approved by a majority of electors voting thereon.
