Resolution to create City of West Allis Policies and Procedures Manual Policy No. 1114, Volunteer Policy
Body
WHEREAS, the 2017-2021 City of West Allis Strategic Plan Goal Number Three, Citizen Engagement, Strategic Action 3-3 states, "Optimize strong partnerships with stakeholders to create new volunteer, employment and training opportunities"; and
WHEREAS, volunteers are a valuable resource in enhancing and improving the City's ability to provide efficient and effective services to the community; and
WHEREAS, City government could not function without volunteers who serve on boards, commissions, task forces and committees; and
WHEREAS, volunteer service can enhance the City's ability to deliver services in a cost effective manner, provide a meaningful positive impact on City programs and the community, and may provide greater diversity in the workforce; and
WHEREAS, volunteering beyond City boards, commissions, task forces and committees makes the community stronger, improves the efficiency of the City, and allows more of the City's dollars to be allocated to local projects; and
WHEREAS, volunteers are motivated by the simple satisfaction of helping their fellow citizens and making their community a better place to live; and
WHEREAS, volunteers can improve or promote the quality of their own lives as well as the lives of those people they interact with in the course of their volunteering; and
WHEREAS, volunteering allows the volunteer to enhance his or her own skills, make contacts for possible employment and community involvement, and could be considered self-satisfying and may fulfill the volunteer's altruistic desires.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of West Allis that Policy No. 1114, Volunteer Policy, is approved as presented.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Administrator is authorized and directed to include the Policy No. 1114 in the City's Policies & Procedures Manual and to distribute said policy ...
