Resolution authorizing $25,000 from the Community & Economic Development Investment Fund for Enhancing the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Family-Centered Room Environment at the Aurora West Allis Medical Center.

WHEREAS, from a historical perspective, when Aurora West Allis Medical Center (AWAMC) was organized in the late 1950's, the main goal in the construction of our community hospital was to provide a primary health care facility for West Allis, followed by a full service Emergency Room to service immediate health care needs. Both goals have been strongly met; and,

WHEREAS, the Community and Economic Development of the NICU Family-Centered Room Environment at the AWAMC will continue to maximize the ongoing holistic approach to pregnancy and childbirth supported by the latest technology with all the comforts of home. The capital improvement being proposed is the environmental update for 2 "Family Rooms" in the NICU. The rooms could be used for parents/families to room together overnight, provide infants who are in-patient for as long as three to four months private space where multiple disciplines can meet, and to provide a quiet, private, safe and comfortable environment to families during stressful times; and,

WHEREAS, the "Family Rooms" will provide family-integrated/centered care which is a new model of care for NICU's across the country and will expand psychosocial support for parents with more hands-on involvement; and,

WHEREAS, the Aurora West Allis Medical Center Board of Directors and the Foundation Development Coordinator have requested a $25,000 donation; and,

WHEREAS, the Aurora West Allis Medical Center has a tremendous economic impact within the City of West Allis.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of West Allis that $25,000 is hereby approved from the Community & Economic Development Investment Fund, aka the FIRE Whitnall Summit Fund, for Enhancing the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NIC...
