Title

Resolution authorizing and directing the Director of Public/City Engineer to enter into an agreement with Honeywell International Inc. for providing upgrades to the HVAC control system at the four Fire Station buildings for an amount not to exceed $134,000.

Body

WHEREAS, the HVAC control system for the four Fire Station buildings is critical to the proper heating, ventilating and air conditioning in each building; and,

WHEREAS, the status of the computer server is at the point where a problem occurred and the decision was made not to reboot the system for fear of losing all control in the buildings; and,

WHEREAS, if the server crashes all four Fire Stations would be out of control including 40 HVAC zones and dozens of pieces of equipment would have to be reconfigured with the resulting use of hundreds of hours of staff time trying to rewire the controls to somewhat function; and,

WHEREAS, the City’s HVAC operator would find it impossible to “babysit” the Fire Stations at the same time maintaining and repair all the other City buildings; and,

WHEREAS, the current HVAC control system is a Honeywell International, Inc. product and they have propriety rights, similar to Microsoft, which makes converting over to another system very costly and difficult.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of West Allis that the Director of Public Works/City Engineer is hereby authorized and directed to enter into an agreement with Honeywell International Inc. and take any and all actions on behalf of the City of West Allis which he deems necessary or desirable in correcting this emergency.
