Resolution declaring the annual Root River Trail Hike as a Community Event.
 
Body
WHEREAS, the Root River Trail Hike is an annual event in its 49th year; and
 
WHEREAS, the hike will bring over 250 boy scouts, girl scouts, and other youth organization members into our city along the Root River Parkway; and
 
WHEREAS, the event is run by Badger Trails, Inc., a non-profit organization; the event is not a fundraiser, i.e. hikers do not obtain pledges or donations from donors; and
 
WHEREAS, it is proposed that the City of West Allis will co-sponsor, along with the Milwaukee County Parks Department, the Root River Trail Hike, occurring this year on Saturday, April 25, 2015; and,
 
WHEREAS, by co-sponsoring the event, the City of West Allis agrees to waive the $500 parade/street event permit fee for holding such an event pursuant to 6.031(5)(d)(1) of the City of West Allis Revised Municipal Code; and,
 
WHEREAS, the City will continue, as it has in years past, to have police present at major intersections along the Root River Parkway during the event.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of West Allis that the annual Root River Trail Hike is declared a Community Event.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the permit fee or deposit is not required for the Root River Trail Hike due to the event being co-sponsored by the City.
