Resolution to endorse the City of West Allis Green Initiative.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of West Allis has strived to provide a cost saving, healthy, and sustainable environment by implementing resource conservation and sustainability through various projects including 227 LED street lights, clean diesel vehicles in the Department of Public Works fleet, computer power management software, print management software, utilization of porous pavers in two parking lots, preemption of Emerald Ash Borer infestation, and promotion of alternative transportation through the West Allis Cross Town Connector bike route; and
WHEREAS, the City should continue to be an example to its citizens and businesses in furthering its Green Initiative through additional projects, leadership, and education; and
WHEREAS, the City of West Allis shall promote and demonstrate a shared environmental vision by building partnerships between City Departments, residents, nonprofit or for-profit businesses, and other government agencies and become a showplace to experience real world examples of environmental stewardship by meeting or exceeding standards and regulations for compliance with state and federal environmental regulations; and
WHEREAS, the City encourages its employees to use alternative means of transportation to and from work including, but not limited to, public transit, biking, and walking programs.
WHEREAS, the funding for any Green Initiative to be limited to only activities that have a two year or less financial payback, and alternative funding sources will be explored by utilizing grants and partnerships with other like-minded organizations or businesses to reduce the funding burden.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City West Allis endorses the City of West Allis Green Initiative.
