Resolution to support Governor Doyle's "25 X 25" Goals for Energy Independence.
 
Body
WHEREAS, Governor Doyle has created an Office of Energy Independence with the goals of:
 
1)  Generating 25% of electricity and transportation fuels from renewable resources by 2025 ("25 x 25"),
2)  Capturing 10% of the emerging bio industry and renewable energy market by 2030, and
3)  Becoming a national leader in groundbreaking energy research; and,
 
WHEREAS, the City of West Allis through the establishment of a Renewable Energy Committee and the adoption of a Strategic Plan, will respond to the challenge of climate change by including sustainability as a guiding principle in its decision making process, supporting projects that exemplify best practices in sustainability, and supporting partnerships with other jurisdictions to promote and implement best practices in sustainability; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Office of Energy Independence is seeking partnerships with local units of government in furtherance of the State of Wisconsin's effort to achieve the "25 x 25" goals; and,
WHEREAS, the City of West Allis will benefit from such a partnership with the State of Wisconsin.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of West Allis that the City of West Allis hereby declares itself a partner with the State of Wisconsin in pursuit of the "25 x 25" goals for energy independence.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, upon adoption, the City Clerk is hereby directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Governor Doyle's Office and the Wisconsin Office of Energy Independence.
