Title
Resolution requesting support for the Green Initiative Green Hinge Project and the transfer of $3,280 from the City's reserve for Green Initiatives to purchase Green Hinges for Fire Department garage doors.

Body
WHEREAS, the City of West Allis adopted the Green Initiative in 2015 (R-2015-0139) to encourage City departments, personnel and citizens of West Allis to think long term and broadly about environmental issues including, but not limited to, air and water quality, pollution prevention, natural restoration, solid waste reduction/recycling, energy, and transportation; and

WHEREAS, the Fire Department conducted a Focus on Energy consultation earlier this year, and the Focus on Energy representative recommended Green Hinge System to reduce wasted energy and reduce utility bills (see attached literature for product description); and

WHEREAS, the City will reduce utility costs with a short return on investment while going "Green." Cost on the project is $3,280 after a $1,200 Focus on Energy incentive, and Focus on Energy estimates a three to three and one-half year payback from reduced utility bills; and

WHEREAS, in support of this project, the City becomes a leader in environmental sustainability in southeast Wisconsin. Along with North Shore Fire Department, West Allis would be setting an example for other southeast Wisconsin fire departments; and

WHEREAS, the City will reduce its carbon footprint by reducing wasted energy through poorly insulated doors; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor and Common Council are interested in ways to improve environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and reduce costs.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of West Allis that $3,280 be transferred from the City's reserve for Green Initiatives to purchase Green Hinges for Fire Department garage doors.
