Title

Resolution opposing President Bush's proposed changes and reductions in CDBG funding and Section 8 Rental Assistance Program.

Body

WHEREAS, President Bush in his FY2006 Budget has proposed changes that will result in a substantial funding reduction for the CDBG program and the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program; and,

WHEREAS, the CDBG and Section 8 Rental Assistance Programs have been used by the City of West Allis for over twenty-five years; and,

WHEREAS, said use of these CDBG and Section 8 Rental Assistance Program funds has contributed significantly to blight elimination, programs benefiting low and moderate income people, and vital redevelopment efforts in the City; and,

WHEREAS, said activities have greatly contributed to the revitalization and tax base growth of the City and the well being of its citizens; and,

WHEREAS, it is extremely important that this CDBG program and the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program continues in the same format and funding level to provide ongoing resources to further these City efforts.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of West Allis that the City states its opposition to President Bush's proposed FY2006 proposed changes and budget cuts to the CDBG program and the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program and urges the President and both houses of Congress to maintain the program as previously structured and funded.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to President Bush, Senators Kohl and Feingold, and Representatives Sensenbrenner and Moore.
