Resolution of Commendation for Paul M. Ziehler.

WHEREAS, Paul M. Ziehler, City Administrative Officer, Clerk/Treasurer, will retire on June 2, 2014 after more than 33 years of public service, having served as the City Administrative Officer, Clerk/Treasurer for the City of West Allis since May of 2001; and

WHEREAS, Paul received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1966 and his Master of Public Administration in 1967 from the University of Dayton, Ohio; and

WHEREAS, during his career, Paul has served the citizens of West Allis in several capacities including Director of Administration & Finance from 1980-1989, City Administrative Officer from 1989-2001, and finally as City Administrative Officer, Clerk/Treasurer; and

WHEREAS, Paul is a member of the International City/County Management Association, Government Finance Officers Association, American Society of Public Administration, Public Risk Management Association, and the respective local chapters for each association; and

WHEREAS, Paul has served on many boards and held several prominent offices, including with the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission, West Allis Community Improvement Foundation, and serving as President of the Milwaukee County Federated Library System, Cities & Villages Mutual Insurance Company, and the Wisconsin City/County Management Association; and

WHEREAS, in 1999 and 2002 Paul was named the Public Administrator of the Year by the Milwaukee Chapter of American Society of Public Administrators, and he received the Award for Individual Excellence in 1999 from the Public Policy Forum; and

WHEREAS, Paul is deserving of special commendation for his many contributions to his profession, his outstanding leadership and dedication in his years of service to the City of West Allis, and his wisdom and guidance in making West Allis a better place to live and work.
