Resolution to approve the West Allis Water Utility's July 1, 2014 Purchased Water Adjustment Clause and Simplified Rate Adjustment.

WHEREAS, the West Allis Water Utility's rate file includes a Purchased Water Adjustment Clause that allows the Utility to adjust its rates to reflect an increase or decrease in the purchased water expense incurred by the Utility and the Utility is able to file a Simplified Rate Case to automatically increase the rate by 3%; and
WHEREAS, the West Allis Water Utility purchases water from Milwaukee Water Works as a wholesale customer for distribution to West Allis Water Utility customers; and
WHEREAS, the Utility's wholesale supplier applied for and received a rate increase from the Public Service Commission effective for service rendered on and after June 1, 2014 and the rates presently charged to customers by the West Allis Water utility are insufficient and inadequate to carry on the Utility's operation at a reasonable and prudent level; and
WHEREAS, the West Allis Water Utility applied for a water rate increase in accordance with the Purchased Water Adjustment Clause to offset a rate increase by the Utility's wholesale supplier, Milwaukee Water Works and applied for a Simplified Rate Increase to carry on the Utility's operation at a reasonable and prudent level: and
WHEREAS, the Public Service Commission approved a water rate increase effective July 1, 2014 for the West Allis Water Utility to offset the increase in the Utility's purchased water expense and to allow the Utility to operate at a reasonable and prudent level.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of West Allis that the water rates approved by the Public Service Commission per the attached rate schedule be and are hereby approved, said increase to be effective July 1, 2014.
