Resolution stating the City of West Allis' position of opposition to Milwaukee County being responsible for the local funding and operation of the proposed Milwaukee Connector.
Body
WHEREAS, the Milwaukee Connector Study is being directed by the Wisconsin Center District, in cooperation with the City of Milwaukee, County of Milwaukee, and the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed Milwaukee Connector is a guided street tram system using rubber tired vehicles that are guided by an overhead electric track; and,
WHEREAS, the thirteen (13) mile system consists of three (3) routes, none of which serve the City of West Allis; and,
WHEREAS, this proposed Milwaukee Connector is estimated to cost at least $300 million; and,
WHEREAS, $57 million of the $300 million cost would be required to be raised locally, with the larger amount being funded by federal dollars; and,
WHEREAS, the $57 million of local funding will result in some form of higher local taxes; and,
WHEREAS, Milwaukee County is likely to be responsible for the local funding and the operation of the proposed Milwaukee Connector.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of West Allis that the City does hereby state its opposition to Milwaukee County being responsible for the local funding and the operation of the proposed Milwaukee Connector.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Administrative Officer, Clerk/Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed to provide copies of this resolution to all parties involved.
