Title

Resolution declaring the annual Root River Trail Hike an annual West Allis Community Event.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Root River Trail Hike is an annual event that has been held for the past 50 years; and

 

WHEREAS, the hike will bring boy scouts, girl scouts, and other youth organization members into our city along the Root River Parkway; and

 

WHEREAS, the event is run by Badger Trails, Inc., a non-profit organization; the event is not a fundraiser, i.e. hikers do not obtain pledges or donations from donors; and

 

WHEREAS, it is proposed that the City of West Allis will co-sponsor the Root River Trail Hike on annual basis without need to annually obtain Common Council approval; and

 

WHEREAS, by co-sponsoring the event, the City of West Allis agrees to waive the parade/street event permit fees for holding such an event pursuant to 6.031(5)(d)(1) of the City of West Allis Revised Municipal Code for 2017 and years going forward until such time as the Common Council decides to rescind such co-sponsorship; and

 

WHEREAS, the City will continue to have police present at major intersections along the Root River Parkway during each annual event.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of West Allis that the annual Root River Trail Hike is declared an annual Community Event without any further need for subsequent Common Council approval until such time as the Common Council rescinds such declaration.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the permit fee or deposit is not required for the Root River Trail Hike due to the event being co-sponsored by the City.
