Resolution relative to the location of the City of West Allis polling places beginning with the August 11, 2020 election
Body
WHEREAS, the administration of elections in 2020 was expected to be a challenge due to the number and offices on the ballot; and
WHEREAS, the WAWM School District Recreation center had been a polling place in prior elections but was not available in the February and April elections due to the construction of the new building resulting in the moving of wards to alternative locations; and
WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in further adjustments to the polling locations; and
WHEREAS, the WAWM School District Recreation center is expected to open in ample time prior to the August election; and
WHEREAS, the number of absentee ballots requested continues to climb and will likely result in fewer people voting at the polling places on Election Day; and
WHEREAS, the number of staff needed to process absentee ballots increases with the number requested and the number of staff available to work at the polling locations is unpredictable due to continued challenges of COVID -19; and
WHEREAS, for these reasons the number of polling locations requires further adjustment.
