Resolution of Commendation for Theodore G. Atkinson.
Body
WHEREAS, Theodore G. Atkinson will retire from office effective December 31, 2014, after 29 years of service to the City of West Allis; and
WHEREAS, during his career, Ted has served the citizens of West Allis as Director Building Inspections, Director of Building Inspections and Zoning, and his last title change as Director of Building Inspections and Neighborhood Services; and
WHEREAS, prior to relocating to the City of West Allis, Ted served as the Building Official and Director of the Building Department for Cedar Falls, Iowa; and
WHEREAS, Ted has been a member of the Southeast Building Inspectors Association (SEWBIA) for many years and served on the SEWBIA Historical Committee; and
WHEREAS, Ted received his Honorable Discharge from the Navy in 1973, having served in a support capacity during the Vietnam War, and he is recognized as a veteran and for his service to our country; and
WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Ted and his wife Monica have two daughters, Brea and Amber, and one granddaughter, Claire; and
WHEREAS, since the mid-1990s, Ted has been very involved in Relay for Life, supporting his wife's family team, and now the family's "Touched You Last" charity and fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, Angel on My Shoulder, and Reedsburg families affected by cancer; many may remember when he shaved off his trademark mustache when he raised $500 for Relay, and it is the only time anyone has seen him without it; and
WHEREAS, Ted and his wife Monica look forward to spending time with their families and continuing their charity work; and
WHEREAS, Ted is deserving of special commendation for his many contributions to his profession and to making West Allis a better place to live and work.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of West Allis that Ted Atkinson, Director of Building Inspections and Neighborhood Services, be and is hereby specially commended for his dedication and service to the citizens of West Allis and congratulates him for a job well done.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Common Council hereby extends to Ted Atkinson its best wishes for a long, prosperous, and healthy retirement.
Let this Resolution be entered in the official minutes of the Common Council and a certified copy go forth to Ted Atkinson.
