An Ordinance To Repeal And Recreate Sections 14.28 and 14.75(2) Of The West Allis Revised Municipal Code Relating To The Exemption of Certain Electrical Work from Permits for One and Two Family.

 

Body

 

The Common Council of the City of West Allis do ordain as follows:

 

PART I.  Section 14.28 of the Revised Municipal Code is hereby repealed and recreated to read as follows:

 

14.28  UNLAWFUL INSTALLATION BY UNQUALIFIED PERSONS.  It shall be unlawful to install new, alter existing, or repair any electrical system or do any electrical work, unless the person, firm, or corporation doing the work is duly qualified, excepting work not requiring an electrical permit as stated in Section 14.75(2).

 

PART II.  Section 14.75(2) of the Revised Municipal Code is hereby repealed and recreated to read as follows:

 

14.75                     ELECTRICAL PERMIT

(2)                     Permit Not Required.  No electrical permit shall be required for the following.  Although excepted from permit requirements, all installations shall conform to current electrical code requirements.

 

(a)                     One or Two Family Use Properties.

 

(i)                     Replacement of electrical receptacles, switches, lighting fixtures, and low voltage equipment.  A (GFCI) Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter may be installed where grounding means is not readily available.

 

(ii)                     Replacement equipment and appliances having a proper factory supplied flexible cord.

 

(iii)                     Installation of a paddle fan fixture or replacement paddle fan fixture where the existing supporting wiring and supporting electrical box is listed/labeled to support the fixture.

 

(iv)      A maximum of five (5) total receptacles, switches, fixtures or appliances, as stated above, may be replaced per calendar year, per dwelling unit.

 

PART III.  All ordinances or parts of ordinances contravening the provisions of the ordinance are hereby repealed.

 

PART IV.  This ordinance shall take effect and be enforced from and after its passage and

publication.
