Resolution of Commendation for Gary Schmid.
Body
WHEREAS, Gary Schmid, Comptroller/Manager of Finance/Deputy Treasurer, resigned from the City of West Allis on August 5, 2011 after more than 20 years of public service, having served the City of West Allis since April 1, 1991; and,
WHEREAS, Gary's education included time spent at Wisconsin Lutheran College, 1980-1982, Caroll College, 1982-1984, and Keller Graduate School, 1984-1989, resulting in a Bachelor Degree in Accounting and an MBA in Accounting/Business; and,
WHEREAS, additionally, Gary earned a Certificate in Public Administration in 2009 through the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education; and,
WHEREAS, during his career with the City as Manager of Finance, Gary assumed additional responsibilities as Comptroller in 2003 and Deputy Treasurer in 2007, serving the citizens of West Allis well in these many different capacities; and,
WHEREAS, Gary served as a WGFOA Board Member from 1998-2004, and a WICPA Board of Directors Member from 2008-2010, currently serving on the Accounting, Auditing & Government Task Force; and,
WHEREAS, in 2011 Gary received the WICPA Outstanding CPA in Government Award, which recognizes the achievements of individual CPAs employed in federal, state, or local government; the award also recognizes the CPA designation as the premier professional credential for accounting, auditing, and finance professionals in government; and,
WHEREAS, in 2002 Gary served as President of the Wisconsin Government Finance Officers Association (WCFOA); and,
WHEREAS, Gary is deserving of special commendation for his many contributions to his profession and to making West Allis a better place to live and work.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of West Allis that Gary Schmid, Comptroller/Manager of Finance/Deputy Treasurer, be and is hereby specially commended for his dedication and service to the citizens of West Allis and congratulates him for a job well done.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Common Council hereby extends to Gary Schmid its best wishes for a successful and rewarding career as the Vice President of Finance for the Wisconsin Lutheran College.
Let this Resolution be entered in the official minutes of the Common Council and a certified copy go forth to Gary Schmid.
