Title

Resolution commending Mail Carrier Ben McCanna and Resident Matthew Dickinson for their assistance at a house fire at 2009 S. 72 Street on January 4, 2013.

 

Body

WHEREAS, a house fire occurred at 2009 South 72nd Street on January 4, 2013; and,

 

WHEREAS, the fire was reported by Mail Carrier, Ben McCanna, who noticed heavy smoke coming of the home while delivering mail in the neighborhood; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Dickinson happened to be driving by at the same time and he stopped and offered to assist; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. McCanna and Mr. Dickinson approached the home and met a young man and girl who appeared confused as to what to do and wanting to re-enter the home for coats; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. McCanna explained to the kids that they needed to get out of the house right away and he lead them outside to a safer location; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Dickinson allowed the children to sit in his vehicle as a safe and warm refuge while Mr. McCanna obtained the cell phone number of the children's mother and called and informed her of what was happening; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. McCanna and Mr. Dickinson went above and beyond their role of passersby and stepped forward as concerned citizens helping others in a time of great need.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of West Allis that Mr. McCanna and Mr. Dickinson be and are hereby specially recognized and commended for their part in assisting young persons in a critical situation and of great personal safety.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Common Council hereby extends to Mr. McCanna and Mr. Dickinson its thanks and gratitude for their concern of other fellow citizens, exemplifying the spirit and strength of a strong community and concerned citizenry which makes the City of West Allis the special community it is.

 

Let this Resolution be entered in the official minutes of the Common Council and a certified copy go forth to Mr. McCanna and Mr. Dickinson.
