Title: Commissioner Gibilian’s report on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion among Older Adults in West Allis. Commissioner Roman de Gibilian’s reported on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion stating that white non-Hispanics are the prominent group within the West Allis Senior Center. She briefly talked about her Puerto-Rican heritage, up-bringing, education and career. She insighted that people from other less prominent ethnic and racial backgrounds might have a difficult time of acclimating to the West Allis Senior Center possibly because they may not have a strong immediate connection at the West Allis Senior Center, and therefore not find a reason to return on a regular basis. Commissioner Roman de Gibilian purposed a strategy in which the West Allis Senior Center staff and volunteers could do a follow-up call on all members within 1-3 months of joining. This suggestion was well received from the other members of the Commission on Aging and plans to be implemented promptly.
