Resolution of the Common Council of the City of West Allis directing staff to prepare a plan for the future of the West Allis Senior Center by working with community partners and Commission on Aging

Body

WHEREAS, the City of West Allis Senior Center provides services, including the senior nutrition program, numerous classes and activities, support groups, stockbox distribution, information and referrals to over 360 members who are seniors 55 years of age and above; and

WHEREAS, the West Allis West Milwaukee School District Recreation Department, West Allis Public Library, and more than 15 Senior Living Facilities also provide services to West Allis Seniors; and

WHEREAS, in 2018 the Facilities Assessment Audit conducted by McKinstry outlined over $2.6 million of maintenance and repairs are required at the Senior Center building over the next thirty years; and

WHEREAS, the City of West Allis continues to deal with financial limitations in budgeting due to expenditure restraint program limits, levy limits, and citizens' ability and willingness to absorb tax increases; and

WHEREAS, working with community partners and Commission on Aging to prepare a plan for the future of the West Allis Senior Center would provide the ability to continue to provide services to existing members; and

WHEREAS, general fund savings may be achieved through relocation and consolidating the programs.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of West Allis directs staff to prepare a plan for the future of the West Allis Senior Center by July 1, 2020, by working with community partners.
