Title

Resolution providing for a spring primary to nominate candidates for city offices at the 2020 Spring Election

Body

WHEREAS, under s. 8.11(1)(a) of the Wisconsin Statutes, the City of West Allis may timely provide for nomination of candidates for city offices at a spring primary; and

WHEREAS, under s. 5.02(22) of the Wisconsin Statutes, the 2020 spring primary would be held on February 18, 2020; and

WHEREAS, the Common Council finds that it would be in the public interest of the City to hold a spring primary for the nomination of candidates whenever the number of candidates for any city office exceeds twice the number to be elected to the office for the spring election to be held on April 7, 2020;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of West Allis that there shall be a spring primary to be held on February 18, 2020, for the nomination of candidates to each city office in which the number of candidates for that office exceeds twice the number to be elected to the office at the spring election on April 7, 2020; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if a primary is held, the number of candidates selected at the primary for the spring election shall be twice the number to be elected to the office and only those selected candidates' names shall appear on the ballot for the spring election on April 7, 2020; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage.
